Tunng News
- This is Tunng... Live from the BBC
- BBC session album released 5th December 2011 on Full Time Hobby.
We knew we had recorded two or three sessions but it turned out we had done so many since 2005 we could make a worthy compilation. Ranging from small acoustic performances through to full band sessions at the BBC Maida Vale Studios it represents the ever-changing sound of Tunng live and includes exculsive tracks and a collaboration with Tuareg musicians Tinariwen. Sessions were recorded for Huw Stephens, Lauren Laverne, Rob Da Bank, Marc Riley and Gilles Peterson amongst others. Due out 5th December, Full Time Hobby have previewed the compilation with a free download. So grab 'Bullets' from Full Time Hobby's Soundcloud page. The album is available now on pre-order from Rough Trade on CD and a "soon-to-be-rare" LP.
- Tunng Live 2011:
After 18 months of headline shows in Australia, USA, South America, Austria, Poland, Iceland, Spain, Turkey, Italy, Latvia, France, performing songs from our last record, '...And Then We Saw Land', we'd really like to thank everyone who came along to see our live show. It's a natural moment for a pause and a chance to write some new material, buy some new hats and make plans to come back renewed in 2012.
- Cheek Mountain Thief:
Mike is currently hiding out in Iceland making a solo album with members of the local Husavik community under the name Cheek Mountain Thief. Mike fell in love with Iceland after playing Airwaves 2010 and decided to spend two months in the remote Northeast town of Husavik, borrowing enough equipment to build a small studio in a cabin facing the Kinnafjoll (cheek mountains). He has since moved to Iceland and the album has developed more, including guest vocals from Sin Fang, Mugison and the Kafibarrinn choir. Due for an early 2012 release too, it's set to be bumper year for Tunng fans. The project be released on KIMI records in Iceland and Full Time Hobby in the UK.
