Following the release of their fourth album …And Then We Saw Land, Tunng have had a busy summer playing festivals, tours and even some shows in Brazil. They’ve also just announced more details on their extra special event at London’s The Forum entitled ‘Embers: An Evening With Tunng And Friends’ on Saturday 6th November 2010.
Tunng will headline this event and be supported by a hand picked selection of bands that they love. We’ll leave it to Mike Lindsay from the band to tell us a little more about each one:
Sam Amidon: http://www.myspace.com/samamidon
We first met Sam when he supported us in New York. He was playing with a band called 'Stars Like Fleas' and was truly captivating. He was also quite hard to fathom, on one hand his music is traditional American folk music but it's so twisted it becomes hypnotic. The chords he chooses are very far removed from tradition and the performance is almost performance art. Especially when he does the Buzzard dance ! Every time we have seen him it's different. There has been full band with Icelandic record producer Valgeir Siguršsson and then with random musicians he met that afternoon... or most recently with experimental jazz percussionist Chris Vatalaro. Sam is truly original and his performances will undoubtedly take you to another world.
Gable: http://www.myspace.com/gableacute
Phil from Tunng played me the Gable CD whilst we were working on our last album and it reminded me of a kind of European 'Books' but with more humour. I forgot about them until we played a show in France and they played after us. Such a fantastic wonky show! It's a 3 piece band that has Casio electronics, drum kits in pieces all over the stage, everybody singing/talking/shouting and acoustic de-tuned instrument. It was a mesmerising performance.
Hannah Peel: http://www.myspace.com/hanpeel
Hannah is the most talented singer/songwriter/pianist/violinist/music box puncher /trombone player I have ever met/worked with! We have just finished producing her unbelievable debut album, which should be out in December on Static Caravan. Her previous shows have featured her playing a combination of instruments (music box, harmonium, piano) and with her Irish/Yorkshire charm she just melts her audience. For this show she will have a full band and together, her blend of skewed epic folk pop will silence you.
